Are you planning on having contractors on your premises? Home Renovations, Landscaping, Roofers - even simple things like spring clean ups?

April 3, 2018

Here are a few things you should consider before choosing your contractor:

Is the company you are hiring INSURED? Are they LICENSED? Are they covered by WCB?

INSURED contractors, why is it important? If the contractor you hire damages your personal property, you want to ensure that they have coverage to repair the damages (just like vehicle insurance to drive, insurance to operate a company is also a must).

WCB why is it important? If your contractor and their employees enter your premises and they end up injuring themselves, you want to ensure that the liability is not yours.

Being LICENSED, why is that important? You want to ensure that the company you have hired is in compliance with any government regulations.

Not sure where you could find this information, the contractor you hired should be able to provide this to you – just ask. Protect yourself, sometimes the least expensive contractor’s end up costing you a fortune because the above were not taken into consideration.

Is Dandelions a problem in your yard?

May 24, 2017

We see it every year, weeds they are a nucious.- Cut your grass regularly, and when you cut make sure you bag and not mulch. Mulching will help spread the seeds, and reproduce more dandelions.

- Fertilize and Re-seed, when you have ample amount of grass it helps to choke out the weeds. And remember to water 💦 the fertilizer and seed to help promote growth.

Why a final grade is more than just dirt

April 14, 2017

It is extremely important for you to know why some contractors quote less or more for a final grade than others.

Some companies will use bare minimum or not enough soil, so the bottom line looks appealing to you.

We have seen it many times before, phone calls from clients asking why their grass is not thriving.  They have done everything, water, fertilize, proper maintenance, etc. and still not as green as they would like.

Here is why......SOIL.  It is extremely important to have ample amount of soil underneath your sod.  Soil holds and retains water, water that your grass needs to flourish.

Here is a different perspective, let's say you build a home and the contractor uses 1X4's instead of 2X4's, the end result looks the same, but put a little bit of pressure on the walls the 2X4's will hold up much more than the 1X4's.  So instead of looking at the bottom line, ask yourself, if I were to get it done right the first time, how much money will that save me in the long run

So don't be afraid to ask your contractor how much dirt they anticipate on using for your final grade and don't be afraid to ask if passing inspection is also included in the price and be sure to get it in writing.
